SWEET GUM MINI FARM

This beauty is just like her dam! Zin was the largest and fastest growing kid in the herd in 2016 and Cabernet has rapidly moved to largest this year. She is so beautifully put together and maturing so nicely. I can't get over how much she reminds me of her granddam Chardonnay but maybe that's partly because she's the same color, only Cabernet is broken with white and has blue-eyes. If she matures like her dam and granddam she will be one heck of a good milker. Such a lovely young doe! 
     Cabernet did indeed end up bred to her sire. He scaled the fence somehow just one time and it just so happened to be the day she was in standing heat. Cabernet however was being rammed quite a bit from Genny and lost her single buck kid on day 135. He could have survived if he'd not been stillborn so I believe he died in utero and she kidded early as a result. I started milking Cabernet and she started off very small to begin with but increased daily until I dried her off. I do believe she would have continued but we're remodeling and I chose to dry off as many as I could. The only flaw I have with Cabernet is that her teats are tiny. She's still easy to milk with very open orifices and soft texture but she hers are not even a 3rd of the length of her dam's. She has such a winning personality though and hopefully next year after breeding her to a buck to increase teat size, we'll improve that.
